Making a family Nest

Important note:
**some days I'm a good housekeeper, some days I am a fun mom**

So once upon a time I was reading some parenting magazine or another and I came across an idea I simply loved, The Family Nest.   I tried it once before with painful results.  Unless you have a plethora of thick blankets, every single blanket in the house isn't enough to quell the possibility of waking up with a stiff neck and sore back.  The idea is to make one night a week or month or whatever into the nest night.  Gather up all the blankets in the house (or in our case, my mattress) and put it in the living room so everyone can sleep all snuggled up in your nest.   This is how round two of the family nest went.....

First there was the jumping...

Then when I returned from making popcorn, this strange "lump" appeared.  I heard a little voice coaxing me to "check on the lump mom!"  But when I did....

RRAAAWWRR!!!

Cypress had fun too since he was finally tall enough to reach mama's computer.
A future blogger in the making??

We watched a movie and ate popcorn.

We said our good nights...

And went to sleep, finally!

Cypress woke up first,

All smiles as always!

Then he gave Free some sweet kisses to wake him up. Awww!
That's one of those moments that makes a mother's heart melt right there!!

Then Free showed dad how to get into the fun, how cute!

All in all we had a great time.  When Free was little he co-slept with John and I but he's all grown up now and Cypress sleeps in his crib about half the night and spends the other half with me.  It's nice though to give it a name and a designated day.   It makes it a special family event we can all look forward to throughout the week.  Thanks for taking the time to check it out.
Blessings!

By the way, if you have a minute stop over to CHILDHOOD MAGIC and check out her giveaway, it's awesome as always!

  1. That's a great idea. We're just in the midst of moving the kids into their own room...after having a family bed for the past 7 years. This would be a nice thing for the kids to look forward to, so we don't just cut them off cold turkey!

  4. Hi, Kat
Friends of mine have done this in their bedroom in the past. My kids are allway in my bed. They do have their own beds but I get visits during the night.LOL :) Luckly Im only a little person I have a child each side of me most nights we don't take up much room but it dose get a bit quishy when my 10 year joins us some morning I have found her down the end of the bed.
At my feet curled up like a cat..LOL
I love the photo of Cypress kissing Free. Beautiful photo...:)

Thanks for your lovely comment on my blog.
It was my first belly blessing I went to too.
I loved it. My freind almost died giving birth 5 year ago. She and her son where in hospital for weeks. I did't know her then. She in her forties now and she going to try and have a natural birth with this baby. Im sure every think will be fine this time around.
So this belly blessing was very important to her and to us who where there there was lots of tears and lots of laughter that day.

  6. I love this post! my eldest never really co-slept with me but my youngest did. he is now 4 and as the years have gone by he spends more time in his bed (at least starts the night in his own bed) but often is in with us by the morning.
We have a similar thing in our house! its called "sofa bed night" Daddy is not keen on joining us for this but the boys and i love a night on the sofa bed chilling and cuddling together! It is often a Friday night and a great way to end a busy week!

I'm also new to blogging.... pop across and visit if you have time!!

  8. Hi,
thanks for your lovely reply on my blog! great to have new people looking in and new blogs to follow!
Childminding is a bit different from babysitting. We have to be regulated, police checked and qualified. Babysitting in the UK tends to mean looking after kids in their own home in the evening. This is durring the day and i work from home.
I love the job, can't imagine doing anything else lol!! And yes your right... boys are soooooo much fun aren't they lol!!
I look forward to your future posts!!
